I now us fluorocarbon as leader material with a braiid as the main line. I have used fluorocarbon as main line but I found that it casts less well than either mono or raid. I fish clear water but see no reason to have low visibility further than 3' from the main line. I can the advantage perhaps for deep cranking but even here the lower diameter of braid should compensate for its boyancy. What am I missing?

Use straight braid for lures 1/16 oz - 3/4 oz. Never found a need for a fc leader regardless of water clarity.
Most outings produce over 50 fish / 4-5 freshwater species, 2.5" fish up to 7.5 lb catfish. 8#test braid/2lb diameter allows good lure action and even light lures drop fast.

I have loved using straight fluorocarbon on BFS reels. It is kind of a match made in heaven because the bait finesse system gives you the power and control that compliments the no stretch in the fluorocarbon.
