How can I attach a treble hook on a large 8/0 single hook and be sure it doesn't come off. Will a piece of tubing work or do I need to rig a short leader. Using a large Swimbait for Musky. Suggestions Welcomed :)

When attaching a treble hook to a large 8/0 single hook for a swimbait targeting Musky, there are a few options you can consider to ensure it stays securely in place:

  1. Split rings: One common method is to use split rings. Attach a large split ring to the eye of the single hook, and then connect the treble hook to the split ring. Split rings provide a secure connection and allow for some flexibility and movement.
  2. Wire or braided line: Another option is to use a short piece of wire or braided line as a leader with the baitcaster combo. Tie one end of the wire or line to the eye of the single hook using a strong knot, such as a clinch knot or a loop knot. Then attach the treble hook to the other end using another knot. This method provides extra strength and prevents the hooks from becoming dislodged.
  3. Tubing or shrink tubing: Tubing can also be used to secure the treble hook to the single hook. Slide a piece of tubing over the shank of the single hook and position it where you want the treble hook to be. Insert the treble hook through the tubing, and then heat the tubing (if using shrink tubing) to create a tight seal. This method can help keep the treble hook in place, but it's important to ensure the tubing is of the appropriate size and material for a strong and secure connection.
Regardless of the method you choose, it's important to consider the size and strength of the hooks and the type of fishing you'll be doing. Musky are powerful fish, so using strong and durable components is crucial to withstand their aggressive strikes and powerful runs. Additionally, always check your rigging before each fishing session to ensure everything is secure and in good condition.

If you're uncertain about the best approach or need specific recommendations for your swimbait and fishing conditions, it's advisable to consult with local tackle shops or experienced anglers who have expertise in targeting Musky. They can provide valuable insights and suggest specific rigging setups that work well in your area.
