I think I've decided pretty much to buy a Halo HFX spinning rod for my new Daiwa BG 2500 spinning reel. I am using 8-pound Sunline Super FC Sniper fluorocarbon line, I fish mainly for pan fish and some bass out on inland lakes in Northern Indiana, so I need a very sensitive rod which I feel the Halo is. I also will use a variety of lures from really lightweight stuff to moderate weight lures, and need to cast them as far as possible. I'm thinking the 7'6" Medium with extra fast taper is the way to go, but maybe an expert more than me can tell me otherwise. I'm open to other suggestions for a different brand of rod, if you think there is a better one for the price with the same build quality or better.
A bit of a story, I was in a store that sold a bunch of rods and the sales guy selected 4 rods in the $150 price range I was looking at which he said was the best rods they carry in that price range, one was a St Croix Premier which my friend was screaming at me to get, another was the Dobyins Sierra, the Halo HFX, and a Phenix Feather. He does something I've never seen done before, he tells me to hold the rods like I was fishing, then he puts a slight arc in the tip of the rod against his neck where the vocal cords are, lets go of the rod and starts talking and asks me if I can feel the vibration of his words in the rod, the only one that I could tell for sure was with the Halo. I'm not sure if that little stunt he did was a parlor trick or is it actually something representative of a knowing how to find a sensitive rod. He did say I should have felt something in all the rods, but he said my hands may not be as sensitive as most other peoples, ok, that might be true, so the Halo would help in that wouldn't it if that stunt was valid?
