We don't have much of a fall frog bite. It's pretty much from April to August with water temperatures between 50-70 degrees. All depends on where you are.
I’m in N.J. And I throw frogs from April to October with success this year it started slow and ended slow but most of the time it was the only bait they would hit
The issue isn't temperature per se. It is what cover are the bass using. If they are using overhead cover, the frogs will work all year long. I have run buzz baits off the edge of the ice in NY in April. Could have used frogs. The ice was the edge. I have used frogs in Nov. in Illinois when the wind backed up dead weeds in blocks along a creek channel. All you have to do is willing to try the cover and adjust your speed to the temp.
There is a guide on Guntersville who says frog fishing there starts when the weeds get a cheesy crud on top and continues until high water affects the weed mats. He said the frog bite starts in September and the crud on top means the fish have room to chase bait under the weeds. He has won a frog tournament using a hollow body frog. So, in this situation temperature is not a primary factor in fishing frogs.
